The challenge

Andersens were looking to provide customers with easier access to their vast range of flooring options, and in doing so, drive product enquiries.

Furthermore, as a more than 60 year old company with a reputation as the largest retailer in Queensland and Northern NSW, they needed a solution that would position them as a forward thinking, innovative brand.

The solution

Working with Andersens and AR specialists Immerse Enterprise, we designed and developed an app that harnesses augmented reality technology to inspire customers to experience the range of floor coverings in their own home without the need to visit a store.

Using a phone or tablet camera, users simply scan their space and choose from a wide range of flooring types and colours to place in their own space via augmented reality. To ensure the most realistic results possible, the app harnesses surface and edge detection as well as texture mapping and lighting occlusion.

The app also provides the option to take a photograph of the space in augmented reality and keep this either as inspiration for future reference, or to send to an Andersens team member via the app for an in-home consultation.

Ultimately, the app brings potential customers closer to the product range by placing it in their home, alleviating purchase indecision and streamlining the research and enquiry process.

The outcome

The app was deployed across both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store and promoted via a TVC campaign. In its first 4 months of being live, it has achieved over 8,000 downloads.

Future iterations to the app are currently in planning.
